Carla Maria Cadete Vieira Ramos Melo

Carla Cadete holds a PhD in Design at Aveiro University (2009) and a Bachelor in Communication Design at the University of Porto, Faculty of Fine Arts (1991). Course leader (June 2015 to June 2023) and associate professor (since 2011) of Communication Design undergraduate degree at Lusófona University of Porto, Portugal. Researcher at the Hei-Lab Centre. Principal Investigator of “Design as a means of preventing childhood obesity,” supported by Pedro Hispano Hospital. Mascot, author of Pediatric Service from Pedro Hispano Hospital (2022). The research project won the FAZER + 2022 Award – Science and Innovation Support Program for Good Research Practices in Teaching. The competition aims to reward the best processes of integration of R&D practices in the contents of curricular units that promote the integration of students in (R&D) activities, especially in the initial study cycles. Author of the mascot for the Paediatrics Department at Pedro Hispano Hospital, ‘Pedrinho’. She has curated national and international exhibitions since 2015, with the support of Porto City Council and Metro do Porto, as part of curricular projects developed at Universidade Lusófona do Porto. Research interests are focused on the role of design for social impact. Author of several articles on pedagogical practices in an academic context. In 1991, at the João Nunes studio, she was part of the team that redesigned the Jornal de Notícias newspaper. She collaborates with the publisher Book Cove, designing the logo and co-authoring the graphic design for the covers of the collections ‘Essentials of Portuguese Literature’, ‘Essentials of Foreign Literature’, and ‘Jules Verne’. She is also responsible for the covers of the collections ‘Camilo Castelo Branco - 200 Years’ and ‘Eça de Queirós - 180 Years’, created for the newspapers Diário de Notícias and Jornal de Notícias, as well as for national bookshops.
