Jonathan Reese Joins HEI-Lab to Strengthen Applied Social Psychology Research

Jonathan holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Lisbon (Portugal), where his research was conducted within the multidisciplinary PhD Program in Migration Studies, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).

Prior to this, he earned an MSc in Marketing Psychology from Regent’s University London (United Kingdom), and a BA in Psychology with a focus in Business Studies from the University of Arkansas (United States).

His doctoral research focused on the contradicting effects of intersectional stereotyping across differing contexts, genders, immigrant statuses, and sexual orientations. His work also addressed topics such as prejudice, group dynamics, vocal categorizations, and occupational discrimination.

He is a published author in several academic journals, including Current Psychology, Psychology & Sexuality, and Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, and has served as an ad-hoc peer reviewer for two psychological journals.

Recently, Jonathan has shown a growing interest in shifting from experimental and theoretical lines of research to a more applied approach. This transition has brought him to the HEI-Lab at Lusófona University, where he is currently involved in two projects:

• CATAPULT – Comprehensive Assessment and Preparedness for Emerging Nuclear Technologies
• EcoC2S – Ecosystem Services to Enhance the Resilience of Coastal Regions and Communities to Flood Risks in a Catchment-to-Sea Perspective

Through his work in these projects, he hopes to continue building a career in applied research, combining theories from his background in both social psychology and marketing.

Jonathan é doutorado em Psicologia Social pela Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal), no âmbito do programa de doutoramento multidisciplinar em Estudos de Migrações, financiado pela Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).

Antes disso, obteve um mestrado em Psicologia do Marketing pela Regent’s University London (Reino Unido) e uma licenciatura em Psicologia, com especialização em Estudos Empresariais, pela University of Arkansas (Estados Unidos).

A sua investigação doutoral centrou-se nos efeitos contraditórios de estereótipos interseccionais em diferentes contextos, géneros, estatutos de imigração e orientações sexuais, abordando também temas como preconceito, dinâmicas de grupo, categorizações vocais e discriminação no trabalho.

É autor de publicações em várias revistas científicas, incluindo Current Psychology, Psychology & Sexuality e Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, e colaborou como revisor ad-hoc em duas revistas de psicologia.

Recentemente, tem demonstrado interesse em transitar de uma investigação mais teórica e experimental para uma abordagem mais aplicada, o que o levou ao HEI-Lab, na Universidade Lusófona. Aqui, integra atualmente os projetos:
