Izdar Abulizi: Visiting Researcher at HEI-Lab

HEI-Lab welcomes researcher Izdar Abulizi as part of Portugal-Germany cooperation project
HEI-Lab Porto is pleased to welcome researcher Izdar Abulizi between September 22 and October 3, 2025, within the scope of the Portugal-Germany Bilateral Cooperation Project 2024 – joint call entitled “Analysis of the etiology of mental disorders through statistical learning” (ref. 2024.07388.CBM). The project started on July 31, 2025, and has a duration of two years. Below we share his photograph and biographical note, so everyone can recognise him and, who knows, inspire future collaborations!
Izdar Abulizi
Visiting Researcher Germany | 22 September – 3 October 2025
Izdar Abulizi is currently a PhD candidate in Biostatistics at the Institute for Medical Biometry and Statistics at Marburg University (Germany). Previously, he earned an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Bonn (Germany).
His doctoral research focuses on developing advanced statistical learning methods to improve prediction models in clinical applications. Given the sensitive application context, he investigates tailoring flexible statistical prediction models to interpretability and usability challenges. For this, he collaborates on various interdisciplinary research projects that combine statistics with clinical research.
During his stay at HEI-Lab, he will work within the scope of the collaborative project “Investigating the etiology of mental disorders via statistical learning”. He will use advanced statistical learning approaches to uncover new insights about the role of co-regulation in mental health disorders.

O HEI-Lab (Lisboa) tem o prazer de receber o investigador Izdar Abulizi entre 22 de setembro e 3 de outubro de 2025, no âmbito do Projeto de Cooperação Bilateral Portugal-Alemanha 2024 – concurso conjunto intitulado “Análise da etiologia das perturbações mentais através de aprendizagem estatística” (ref. 2024.07388.CBM). O projeto teve início a 31 de julho de 2025 e tem a duração de dois anos. Investigador visitante Alemanha | 22 setembro – 3 outubro 2025
Izdar Abulizi é atualmente doutorando em Bioestatística no Institute for Medical Biometry and Statistics da Universidade de Marburg (Alemanha). Anteriormente, concluiu o mestrado em Matemática na Universidade de Bona (Alemanha).
A sua investigação doutoral centra-se no desenvolvimento de métodos avançados de aprendizagem estatística para melhorar modelos preditivos em aplicações clínicas. Dado o contexto sensível destas aplicações, investiga a adaptação de modelos estatísticos flexíveis aos desafios da interpretabilidade e da usabilidade. Nesse âmbito, colabora em vários projetos de investigação interdisciplinar que combinam estatística com investigação clínica.
Durante a sua estadia no HEI-Lab, trabalhará no âmbito do projeto colaborativo “Investigating the etiology of mental disorders via statistical learning”. Irá aplicar abordagens avançadas de aprendizagem estatística para revelar novos contributos sobre o papel da co-regulação nas perturbações de saúde mental.
