HEI-Lab Researcher Joins International Sexual Medicine Advisory Committee

Inês Tavares, a researcher at HEI-Lab, was part of the 5th International Consultation Committee on Sexual Medicine, organised by the International Society for Sexual Medicine. As part of this initiative, she co-authored the article “Psychological and interpersonal dimensions of sexual function and dysfunction: Recommendations from the fifth international consultation on sexual medicine (ICSM 2024)” published in the journal Sexual Medicine Reviews, in collaboration with national and international researchers.

This article reviews and presents evidence-based recommendations for the assessment and treatment of sexual dysfunctions, considering the role of psychological and relational dimensions. Key implications include the need for sexual health training for primary healthcare providers, the importance of tailoring treatments to the psychological, relational, and medical context of each client, and the usefulness of digital and combined (psychological and medical) therapies as effective and accessible solutions for sexual difficulties.

Investigadora do HEI-Lab faz parte de comité internacional de consultoria em medicina sexual

Inês Tavares, investigadora do HEI-Lab, fez parte do 5.º Comité Internacional de Consultoria em Medicina Sexual, organizado pela Sociedade Internacional de Medicina Sexual, no âmbito do qual publicou o artigo intitulado “Psychological and interpersonal dimensions of sexual function and dysfunction: Recommendations from the fifth international consultation on sexual medicine (ICSM 2024)” na revista Sexual Medicine Reviews, em colaboração com investigadoras e investigadores nacionais e internacionais.

Neste artigo, são revistas e apresentadas recomendações baseadas em evidência para a avaliação e tratamento de disfunções sexuais, considerando o papel das dimensões psicológicas e relacionais. As implicações principais incluem a necessidade de formação em saúde sexual para prestadores de cuidados de saúde em cuidados primários, a relevância de ajustar os tratamentos conforme o contexto psicológico, relacional e médico da/o cliente; e a utilidade de terapias digitais e combinadas (psicológicas e médicas) como soluções eficazes e acessíveis para dificuldades sexuais.
