Dr. Tania Gaspar, a prominent researcher at HEI-Lab and Associate Professor at Lusófona University, recently shared her groundbreaking work in child and adolescent public health during an interview with EUPHA (European Public Health Association).
As the director of the WHO-backed Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) study for Portugal, Dr. Gaspar has been instrumental in shaping national policies. She emphasized how the HBSC study provides crucial insights into the biopsychosocial health of children, helping to inform initiatives like the National Observatory for Mental Health and Well-being and training programs for teachers.
Dr. Gaspar’s collaborative approach with schools stands out. She stressed the importance of ongoing relationships with educators to implement effective, data-driven interventions that address the needs of children and adolescents in real time. Despite challenges like political shifts and post-pandemic pressures on schools, her persistence and commitment have ensured the success of these initiatives.
HEI-Lab celebrates Dr. Gaspar’s impactful work and invites public health professionals and educators to follow her research and upcoming projects, including her participation in this November’s EUPHA Conference in Portugal.
