HEI-Lab Researcher Completes Scientific Visit at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN)

Jonathan Reese, Postdoctoral Researcher in the HEI-Lab, recently completed a month-long scientific exchange at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN) in Mol, Belgium.

During his visit, he worked closely with and was supervised by Dr. Tanja Perko on the CATAPULT Project (Comprehensive Assessment and Preparedness for Emerging Nuclear Technologies; co-supervised by Rui Gaspar), aimed at improving the tools available for public participation within the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for new nuclear technologies, such as Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMNRs), as well as the design of science communication for the public, associated with the Environmental Impact Assessment of the implementation of infra-structures with this type of technologies.

The visit represented a unique opportunity for the sharing of knowledge between social psychology and nuclear technologies research, blending the two scientific fields, as well as a continued opportunity for collaboration between HEI-Lab and SCK-CEN, currently and in the future.

Jonathan Reese, Investigador do HEI-Lab, concluiu recentemente um intercâmbio científico de um mês no Centro Belga de Pesquisa Nuclear (SCK CEN) em Mol, Bélgica.

Durante sua visita, ele colaborou com e foi supervisionado pela Dra. Tanja Perko no Projeto CATAPULT (Comprehensive Assessment and Preparedness for Emerging Nuclear Technologies; com co-supervisão de Rui Gaspar), que visa melhorar as estratégias de participação de público no processo de Avaliação de Impacte Ambiental (AIA) para novas tecnologias nucleares, como Pequenos Reatores Nucleares Modulares (PRNMs), bem como desenhar comunicação de ciência para os cidadãos no âmbito do processo de Avaliação de Impacte Ambiental da implementação de infra-estruturas com este tipo de tecnologia.

A visita constituiu uma oportunidade única para o compartilhamento de conhecimento entre a pesquisa em psicologia social e a pesquisa em tecnologias nucleares, a combinar as duas áreas científicas, bem como para a continuidade de colaboração futura entre o HEI-Lab e o SCK-CEN, atualmente e no futuro.
