The European Master’s in Human Sexology is a project of the UI&D HEI-Lab coordinated by researcher Patrícia Pascoal.
Sexuality is a crucial dimension throughout human life. Different professionals in different contexts (e.g., healthcare, education, law) may need to intervene in sexuality-related issues (e.g., improving sexual health; addressing sexual harassment). However, sexuality is often absent from university education, preventing professional intervention based on empirical evidence and the most up-to-date knowledge.
A European master's in sexology could fill these gaps by creating a collaborative knowledge network. We propose to develop a European master's degree, EMSEX, which will be transdisciplinary, accepting graduates from any scientific field to engage with human sexuality topics and acquire applied research skills.
The consortium, consisting of Lusófona University, Malmö University, and the University of Almeria, will share resources, act interdisciplinarily, optimize resource use, facilitate student and teacher mobility, and establish quality assurance mechanisms. Networking opportunities will lead to joint research projects, publications, and professional development.
This cutting-edge programme will help overcome existing inequalities in sexuality education at the higher education level and combat prejudice and misinformation in the field of human sexuality.
