People on the autism spectrum experience online education differently than the rest of the students. For some of them, e-learning was a relief, especially at the beginning of the lockdown. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a set of characteristics making it hard to engage in social interactions in the same way most people do. It is difficult for an autistic student to function in a traditional, noisy, and overcrowded school. Because the education system fails to provide a suitable learning environment for autistic students, they often are left behind other pupils and struggle with basic skills, even though autism itself does not affect their intelligence or ability to learn.
Project’s objectives
E-Learning support for autistic pupils project aims to minimize the digital exclusion of students with autism. At the same time, we want to contribute to the professional development of the teachers, so that they are well-equipped to work with neurodiverse pupils. During the project we are going to create:
- A web-based platform to share experiences among autistic students, teachers, and parents, - Digital materials and tools for e-learning, improving student’s proficiency in basic skills, - Teacher manuals and Parents’ Guidance for the digital content and e-Learning tools.
