HEI-Lab Researcher Writes Opinion Piece in Público, Presenting Findings from the European Project BioLaMer

Catarina Possidónio, researcher at the Behaviour and Social Change in Context Laboratory of HEI-Lab, authored an article entitled “Bioplastics: Towards a Less Disposable Future” in the newspaper Público, published on 4 July 2025.

In this piece, the researcher reflects on bioplastics as a more sustainable alternative to conventional plastics, drawing on findings from the European Project BioLaMer. She highlights the importance of clarifying concepts such as “biodegradable” and “compostable” and warns of the need for appropriate infrastructure to ensure their genuine environmental impact. She argues that bioplastics should be seen as a complement to strategies of reduction, reuse, and conscious consumption.
