HEI-Lab Researcher Joins International Team to Test Innovative Psychological Intervention for Women with Breast Cancer

Diogo Carreiras, a researcher at the Mental Health and Clinical Sciences Laboratory of HEI-Lab, has published an article titled “Efficacy and cost-effectiveness of an ACT and compassion-based intervention for women with breast cancer: Study protocol of two randomized controlled trials” in the Trials Journal - BioMed Central.

The article was co-authored with researchers from the Center for Research in Neuropsychology and Cognitive-Behavioral Intervention at the University of Coimbra; the Center for Health and Medical Psychology, School of Behavioural at Örebro University (Sweden); the School of Psychology, Faculty of Health, at Deakin University (Australia); among others.

This article outlines the research protocol and procedures for implementing a clinical trial to test the effectiveness of an innovative psychological intervention. The goal of this intervention is to enhance the quality of life and psychological adjustment of women who have survived breast cancer.

The results of this study could contribute to improving the psychological care provided to breast cancer survivors, promoting greater well-being and adjustment during their recovery. Additionally, the findings may influence health policies and the implementation of new therapeutic approaches, for instance, in public hospitals.

Investigador do HEI-Lab faz parte de equipa internacional que irá testar a eficácia de uma intervenção psicológica inovadora para mulheres com cancro da mama

Diogo Carreiras, investigador do Laboratório Mental Health and Clinical Sciences do HEI-Lab, publicou o artigo intitulado “Efficacy and cost-effectiveness of an ACT and compassion-based intervention for women with breast cancer: Study protocol of two randomised controlled trials” no Trials Journal - BioMed Central, em co-autoria com investigadores/as do Centro de Investigação em Neuropsicologia e Intervenção Cognitivo-Comportamental da Universidade de Coimbra; Center for Health and Medical Psychology, School of Behavioural da Universidade de Örebro (Suécia); School of Psychology, Faculty of Health, da Universidade de Deakin (Austrália); entre outros.

Este artigo inclui o protocolo e os procedimentos de investigação para a implementação de um ensaio clínico, onde será testada a eficácia de uma intervenção psicológica inovadora, que tem como objetivo aumentar a qualidade de vida e o ajustamento psicológico de mulheres sobreviventes de cancro da mama.

Os resultados deste estudo poderão contribuir para a melhoria dos cuidados psicológicos oferecidos a mulheres sobreviventes de cancro da mama, promovendo um maior bem-estar e ajustamento na sua recuperação, bem como influenciar políticas de saúde e a implementação de novas abordagens terapêuticas, por exemplo em hospitais públicos.
