Simão Luz
- Science Manager
Simão Cunha da Luz is a biochemist that founds in management the direct way to contribute to science in its achievements. From early age as volunteer in some associations Simão has improved the sense of pro-activity, help others, organization and planning skills. Those experiences, together with the problem solving skills and the deep interest in science, lead me to found research management a perfect way to service science.
He is currently a Senior Research Manager at HEI-Lab, ULusófona (since 2023), with previous experience at the Biosystems and Integrative Sciences Institute (BioISI) from 2018 to 2023. His key responsibilities have included budget control, procurement, human resources management, organizing advanced training activities, and implementing data management and social impact policies. He has experience managing large budgets, overseeing a PhD program with 55 students and a budget of over €850,000, as well as managing an institutional budget of €6 million.
Simão has been recognized with several awards, including three fellowships, two best student awards, and a bronze medal for his work in the Portuguese Scout Movement. His academic achievements are complemented by his attendance at various international conferences and workshops, where he has developed a deep understanding of EU project management, ethics, and high-performance administration.
