HEI-Lab’s ‘Summer School Cognition and Video Games for Pandemic 2020 – CVP’20’, was financed for a period of 3 months with 15 BI by FCT (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/veraocomciencia/index.phtml.pt).

CVP’20 aims to promote the initiation into scientific activity of young graduates in the field of psychological intervention and video games, with a focus on the development of digital solutions that can be used in confinement periods.

  1. Avaliação da entrevista inferior a 10 valores;
  2. Percurso científico dos candidatos insuficiente na área do referido concurso;
  3. Experiência insuficiente no desenvolvimento de jogos sérios em realidade virtual.

Focus

We specifically welcome papers that contain original and mature research to address applications of Virtual Reality (VR) for therapy, and physical and cognitive rehabilitation; championing end user involvement in research, and which contain a rigorous evaluation of their approach. The guest editors encourage the submission of studies on Technologies for Rehabilitation including both physical and cognitive (e.g., Stroke), Healthcare Design and Applications, Visual Impairment, Elderly Studies/Dementia, Movement Disorders, Communication, Social Interaction, and Brain Injury. Research focused on wellness enhancement and treatment for persons with anxiety disorders, PTSD, depression, and addiction are also welcome. Augmented Reality, Affective Computing, Synthetic Agents, Privacy and Ethics, Brain Computer Interfaces, Rehabilitation Robotics, AI and Machine Learning, and Digital Game Making, are expected to be major upcoming themes when used to augment long standing VR approach and may be suitable topics for submitted papers but must be clearly located in the context of VR.

Hei-Lab partner of ID Games

Hei-Lab is doing research with games for people with intellectual disabilities in ID Games EU project with partner organizations from other countries, such as Greece (PekAmeA PEIRAIKI ENOSI GONEON KHDEMONON KAI FILON AMEA and MPIRMPAKOS D. & SIA O.E.), Romania (ASOCIATIA ALIANTA PENTRU COPII ARAD), and Poland (Specjalny Osrodek Szkolno – Wychowawczy Nr 1), the team will develop the project activities during 30 months with the end date being the 28th of February 2022.

The “ID GAMES” project is based on the belief that each person should be given the chance to be accepted, valued and have equal opportunities to develop their skills and personality. Social inclusion is defined as “the process of improving the terms of participation in society, particularly for people who are disadvantaged, through enhancing opportunities, access to resources, voice and respect for rights.” (UN Report on the World Social Situation, 2016).

This project focus on:

-Developing an innovative methodology of participatory living labs for inclusion where pwID, their careers, their trainers, healthcare professionals, game-designers/ developers, university students from related disciplines, people from local communities, volunteers, form mixed teams and design ideas-prototypes of serious games addressing the needs of pwID;

-Developing 6 serious games (digital, physical, phygital) that adapt to the ages, interests and needs of pwID;

-Creating an E-course for strengthening the competences of trainers of pwID, relevant professionals, caregivers and organizations addressing pwID on how to organize and implement participatory game-creation workshops and how to use the serious games;

-Developing and E-platform with all the material of the project for sharing its results to a larger audience within Europe and worldwide and promoting inclusion and skills development of pwID and their careers and trainers.
